Who am I?

My name is Rosanna Crawford, I was born and raised in Canmore, AB and started cross country skiing by the time I could walk! At the age of 10 I started biathlon and fell in love! Something about the challenge of skiing and shooting really stuck with me and being able to hang out with your friends wasn't too bad either! At 14 I got to compete in my first National Champs and got a taste of what it was like to race on a bigger scale! By 16 I was on the National team and trying to make international teams. In 2008 I competed in my first World Youth and Junior Championships in Ruhpolding, Germany. That was when I got hooked!
I train full time out of Canmore and spend my winters racing all over Canada and Europe. Follow along as I compete and train all around the World!
It is here that I hope to keep you up to date on my training and racing. I would not be able to do what I love without the support of my family and sponsors, so a big shout out to you guys!
Now what is biathlon you might ask. Biathlon combines the physical exertion of cross country skiing and the challenge of rifle marksmanship. Skiing is always skate technique and shooting is either laying down on your stomach (prone) or standing up (standing).

To race or not to race....

As soon as I got home from Europe I knew I was on the edge of being sick. I woke up Tuesday morning with my chest feeling tight and something weird going on in my voice box. By Wednesday evening I was sounding like a frog and had a nasty cough to go with it. I had taken every tincture I could think of and was popping cold FX and vitamins like they were candy, I even did a quick 3 day anti biotic treatment to see if I could kick it in time for Nationals. But things just moved from my chest to my throat and sinus and I wasn't able to train for 9days. On March 20th I was supposed to fly to New Brunswick to kick off Canadian Champs. I pushed my flights to Monday and then to Tuesday in hopes I would get better and be able to race the sprint on Thursday But no such luck, after much thought and talking to everyone, I made the decision to sit out Nationals. It was a hard call but probably for the best, it would have taken me a day to get to Charlo and I am only now starting to feel close to better. My last races in Europe I was skiing the faster I have all year and was really looking forward to fighting for the podium at Nationals. But this is the life of a skier, one minute you feel like no one can knock you down and the next you are sentenced to bed rest for a week or two.
This week in Canmore I have been loving the Nordic centre, going for snail pace skis with anyone who will join me! This is the most snow I can remember in Canmore, where all the trails are open! It is going to be great spring skiing!
This April Brendan and I are going to Belize for 9days, to soak up some sun and enjoy some much needed rest.
Good job to everyone at Canadian Champs and see most of you back in Canmore.
Cheers
Rosanna
