Who am I?

My name is Rosanna Crawford, I was born and raised in Canmore, AB and started cross country skiing by the time I could walk! At the age of 10 I started biathlon and fell in love! Something about the challenge of skiing and shooting really stuck with me and being able to hang out with your friends wasn't too bad either! At 14 I got to compete in my first National Champs and got a taste of what it was like to race on a bigger scale! By 16 I was on the National team and trying to make international teams. In 2008 I competed in my first World Youth and Junior Championships in Ruhpolding, Germany. That was when I got hooked!
I train full time out of Canmore and spend my winters racing all over Canada and Europe. Follow along as I compete and train all around the World!
It is here that I hope to keep you up to date on my training and racing. I would not be able to do what I love without the support of my family and sponsors, so a big shout out to you guys!
Now what is biathlon you might ask. Biathlon combines the physical exertion of cross country skiing and the challenge of rifle marksmanship. Skiing is always skate technique and shooting is either laying down on your stomach (prone) or standing up (standing).

Forni Avoltri, Italy

Our week in Forni was filled with great skiing, fun racing and lots of Italian sunshine! Tuesday we went for a great ski in Sappada which made me really appreciate what I get to do. I travel the world skiing in some of the most beautiful places and Sappada was no exception! Saturday was the sprint race and the Alpen cup felt a lot like an Alberta cup, just with more people. The race course really suited me with only one long up hill but not too steep and lots of one skate. I hit 9/10 and won the race, which was pretty exciting. Sunday was the pursuit and they mixed in all the categories that were doing the same distance, so Sr. Women, Jr. Women and Youth men all started together. I was feeling a little tired from all the racing but the 2km course was really easy and would help get some snap back into my legs for the coming week. I hit 9/10 prone and came into my first standing, my legs were shaking and I don't really remember much else, other than missing 4! I had come into my first standing 5th behind the youth men and after 4 penalty loops was 14th behind a lot of Jr's and youth. As I set up for my last standing I shook out my legs and put all my energy into hitting black, hit, hit, hit, hit, deep breath, hit! It was tough shooting and I left the range just ahead of some of the junior women. I hammered out my last loop and was the first women across the line and 6th behind the youth men!
Our next stop would be Annecy, France which is about 900km away, so we decided to break up the driving and start on Sunday and stop in Venice for the evening. It is carnival right now in Venice so there was a ton of people, most in amazing costumes. Because I had just been to Venice at Christmas time I was able to help the team make the most of our time there. Monday morning everyone got up at 7am and explored for 3hrs before hitting the road for a 6hr drive to France. Since I had just been there I slept in a bit and caught up on some much needed rest.
We are now in France and so far it seems like a beautiful area. Today and tomorrow will be training days and then 15km Individual on Thursday.
