Who am I?

My name is Rosanna Crawford, I was born and raised in Canmore, AB and started cross country skiing by the time I could walk! At the age of 10 I started biathlon and fell in love! Something about the challenge of skiing and shooting really stuck with me and being able to hang out with your friends wasn't too bad either! At 14 I got to compete in my first National Champs and got a taste of what it was like to race on a bigger scale! By 16 I was on the National team and trying to make international teams. In 2008 I competed in my first World Youth and Junior Championships in Ruhpolding, Germany. That was when I got hooked!
I train full time out of Canmore and spend my winters racing all over Canada and Europe. Follow along as I compete and train all around the World!
It is here that I hope to keep you up to date on my training and racing. I would not be able to do what I love without the support of my family and sponsors, so a big shout out to you guys!
Now what is biathlon you might ask. Biathlon combines the physical exertion of cross country skiing and the challenge of rifle marksmanship. Skiing is always skate technique and shooting is either laying down on your stomach (prone) or standing up (standing).

We're here to breath the air

It's been three weeks of hard training with two trips up to the haig and one week of intensity with lots of upper body work. The haig was great and we were really lucky with the weather. On the first haig trip I got a bit of a sore throat and had to take one day easier and just hiked up to the snow and breath the air or what little air their is up there! After the second haig camp when we got back to Canmore the smoke from B.C. made it impossible to train. But lucky for me I was headed to Windermere for our annual Crawford family reunion and there was no smoke there. So on Saturday my mom drove me up Panorama road so I could do my intensity. We found a nice steep pitch I would ski up it and then my mom would drive me back to the start. It was a great workout and I was very grateful to have my amazing mom there to cheer me on!!
Now I have a nice easy week before starting the ramp up for trials. It is crazy to think that we are only three weeks away from trials. The first race will be Friday September 17th, mass start format so 12.5km, then sprint on Sunday and pursuit on Monday. These races will decide the beginning of the race season, who goes on the World Cup and who goes to the IBU cups. Zina is pre qualified for the World Cup season so that leaves 2 spots for the women, JP and Brendan are pre qualified so there is only one spot for the men. Then there is 4 spots for the men and 4 spots for the women on the IBU cup. I am really looking forward to these races and can't wait to get onto snow! It looks like it might even snow in Canmore soon!!
Here are some photos from training the past month!
